Preoccupations comes after a trip made to the Czech Republic where I spent 2 months travelling a little, chasing squirrels and peacocks with my camera, and plenty of museum absorbing. Eventually the trip culminated at an artist residency in Klenova, a village of 100 people, which fortunately had facilities to make prints. I walked, viewed, drew, mushroomed in the woods, printed, cooked many soups and absolutely frolicked. I spent a lot of time reflecting on my connection to place and I wondered about the lives of my family and their possible connection to the views in front of me. My work has always been motivated by my personal history where I often explore the notions of loss, places of protection, transience and fragility. Here is a collection of various works, techniques and imagery mixed together to record my preoccupations while travelling/researching history…. etc Most works were formed from the photographs that were taken and cultural clichés were happily included to reflect my idealised, romanticised image of a place I come only to visit. Nostalgia is abundant. Found items, I discriminately pick up to claim for myself as I do with my Czech identity.
